Papal States Gold Coins The coin denomination used by Papal States include zecchino, (plural zecchini), and lira (plural lire). The lira coins were denominated in amounts of 12, 24, 48, and 96. These values seem strange to us now because we are all used to the decimal system. According to Krause, the 48 lire coins were struck in .909 fine gold which strikes us as unusual, we would have expected them to be in 22 carat (.9166) as with the other three lire denominations. We have used the fineness quoted by Krause, as the editors may have greater knowledge than ours. | 12 Lire | | 3.1515 | 0.0929 | 2.88951 | 0.9166 | ITALY | San Marino Gold Coins Most Serene Republic of San Marino - Serenissima Repubblica di San Marino | 5 Scudi 1983 - 1985 | 27 | 10 | 0.2949 | 9.17242 | 0.917 | ITALY | 5 Scudi 1986 - | 27 | 16.959 | 0.5 | 15.55174 | 0.917 | ITALY | 1 Scudo 1986 - 1988 | 15.9 | 3.392 | 0.1 | 3.11035 | 0.917 | ITALY | 1 Scudo 1989 - | 15.9 | 3.2258 | 0.0933 | 2.90195 | 0.9 | ITALY | 2 Scudi 1974 - 1982 | 20.9 | 6 | 0.1769 | 5.50221 | 0.917 | ITALY | 2 Scudi 1983 - 1985 | 20.9 | 4 | 0.1179 | 3.6671 | 0.917 | ITALY | Jamaica Gold Coins Apart from the early countermarked Spanish coins, no Jamaican gold coins were issued before decimalisation, the earliest being 1972. Although their currency unit is the Lat (LVL), Krause states that 100 Santimu = 1 Lats, having added an "S". Also on the coins themselves, the denomination is shown on the 10, 20, and 100 units as "Latu", whereas on the 5 unit coin it is shown as "Lati". There appears to be some confusion about both the singular and plural forms of the name of the currency. | 100 Latu 1993 | | 13.338 | 0.2501 | 7.77898 | 0.8333 | LATVIA | 100 Latu 198 | 24 | 16.2 | 0.5203 | 16.18314 | 0.999 | LATVIA | 10 Latu 1997 - 1998 | | 1.2441 | 0.04 | 1.24414 | 0.9999 | LATVIA | 10 Latu 1999 | 18.5 | 3.11 | 0.0583 | 1.81333 | 0.583 | LATVIA |
