Diamond

Diamond is a polymorph of the element carbon. where the carbon atoms are arranged in a variation of the face-centered cubic crystal structure called a diamond lattice, knows as it s hardness and beauty. Diamonds have been a source of fascination for centuries. Gem quality diamonds display a high standard of excellence in quality and are used in jewellery. The appeal of diamonds lies in their dazzling beauty and endurance, and their ability to provide a lasting memento of a special occasion.

The quality and value of diamonds are measured by four characteristics known as the 4C's. The 4C's relate to a diamond's cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.

Diamond Shape

There are eight diamond shapes that are most commonly offered by fine jewelers: Round diamonds, Princess diamonds, Heart diamonds, Oval

diamonds, Marquise diamonds, Pear-shaped diamonds, Emerald diamonds, Radiant diamonds and Asscher. The most preferred shape, round shape is the ideal diamond cut that has been in use since centuries.

Diamond Color

The "color" of a diamond refers to its degree of "yellowness." The ideal diamond is completely colorless, and therefore it will be the most expensive. Many systems have been used to grade diamond color alphabetically from D (totally colorless) to Z (yellow) .
  • D (Colorless) - Highest color grade your diamond can achieve.  This color emits unequaled brilliance, and is extremely rare.
  • E (Colorless) - Containing minute traces of color.  Emits unsurpassed brilliance, and is very rare.
  • F (Colorless) - Minute traces of color can only be detected by a trained gemologist.  This is a high-quality color grade.
  • G, H (Near Colorless) - Noticeable color only when compared to higher color grades.  Excellent value, as it appears colorless to the untrained eye.
  • I, J (Near Colorless) - Slightly detectable color.  Excellent value, as it appears colorless to the eye.
  • K, L, M (Faint Yellow) - Faint color noticeable.  Even with the presence of color, diamonds can emit fire and beauty.

Diamond Clarity

Clarity is a measure of the number and extent of the flaws in the diamond. A diamond's clarity refers to the presence of identifying characteristics on and within the diamond. Diamond clarity is graded using ten-power magnification, as most inclusions are invisible to the unaided eye.

Diamond Carat Weight

Carat weight is the weight of the diamond measured in carats. One carat is divided into 100 "points."
