Mir mine(Mirny Mine)
The Mirny Mine in Russia is famous as the largest open pit diamond mine in the world, and as the second largest excavated hole in the world. (surpassed only by the Bingham Copper Mine in Utah). The diamond mine is located on the outskirts of Mirny, a small town in eastern Siberia. Reserves/Resources: The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep (4th in the world) and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft).The underground mine has an estimated life of 50 years. Udachnaya pipe is a diamond deposit in the Daldyn-Alakit kimberlite field in Sakha Republic, Russia. it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata). Reserves/Resources: More than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep. Products: In the first half of 2011, the mine reached its maximum open-pit depth of 600 meters.Construction of the underground mine began in 2004, and the ultimate completion of the mine is scheduled for 2016.The plan for the Udachnaya underground mine is to produce 4 million tons of ore per year.
