Williamson diamond mine

The Williamson diamond mine is a famous large open pit mine currently about 90 meters (300 ft) deep.It is the worlds largest economic kimberlite by surface area at 146 hectares in size. It is a historic source of high value Type II diamonds and fancy pinks.It is located about 160 kilometers (99 mi) south of the town of Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania.
Reserves/Resources: A major diamond resource of approximately 39 Mcts.
Products: Today production levels for all Williamson mine diamond recovery activities is about 300,000 carats (60 kg) per year.
Owner: Owned by Petra Diamonds (75% ownership), with the government of Tanzania owning the remaining 25%.
