Kollur Mine

The Mirny Mine in Russia is famous as the largest open pit diamond mine in the world, and as the second largest excavated hole in the world. (surpassed only by the Bingham Copper Mine in Utah). The diamond mine is located on the outskirts of Mirny, a small town in eastern Siberia. Reserves/Resources: The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep (4th in the world) and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft).The underground mine has an estimated life of 50 years.
