Moab Khotsong is the newest deep-level gold mine in South Africa. It is situated near Orkney, Klerksdorp and Viljoenskroon, about 180km southwest of Johannesburg. In 2011, the mine produced 266,000 ounces of gold.The Moab Khotsong mine is to produce 2.7 million ounces gold over its life of mine which was supposed to end in 2025.

| Savuka Gold Mine
Savuka mine is located near the town of Carletonville on the border between the South African provinces of Gauteng and North West. It is 43 km northeast of the city of Potchefstroom on the northwestern rim of the Witwatersrand Basin.Savuka is a challenging mine from a safety perspective: established in 1958, it is currently the deepest operating mine in the world (mining is carried out at depths up to 3.7km) with long travelling distances between the shaft and the workplace.
