The varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a member of the herpes virus family. It can cause chickenpox and shingles. The virus can potentially cause birth defects or illness in the baby, so doctors often order blood tests to screen for VZV in pregnant women who aren¡¯t immune to the virus.

Pap test and HPV testing
Once a woman is pregnant, a Pap test will be taken at the first prenatal visit for women who are not up to date on screening. In some pregnant women with HPV, the tissue changes may increase during pregnancy.If a pregnant woman tests positive for the high-risk types of HPV associated with cervical cancer, the doctor will monitor her during the pregnancy to watch for cervical tissue changes.

A urine tests is used to assess bladder or kidney infections, diabetes, dehydration and preeclampsia by screening for high levels of sugars(glucose ), proteins, ketones and bacteria.High levels of sugars may suggest gestational diabetes, and higher levels of protein may suggest a possible urinary tract infection.

Bacterial vaginosis (also called BV or vaginitis)
Bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused when there¡¯s too much of certain bacteria in the vagina. It¡¯s the most common vaginal infection in women ages 15 to 44.BV is a common infection that¡¯s easily treated, but it can cause problems for your baby during pregnancy.Having BV during pregnancy can increase your baby¡¯s risk for miscarriages, early delivery,low birth weight, and premature rupture of membranes.
