Urine test for asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy
Asymptomatic bacteriuria is the presence of bacteria in a voided urine sample and is caused by bacterial colonization of the urinary tract.Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a relatively common medical complication of pregnancy and asymptomatic bacteriuria is the most prevalent of these infections.Asymptomatic bacteriuria can lead to kidney infection or increased risk of pre-term delivery and low birth weight.
Best time to get tested
First prenatal visit or between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy; may be repeated in third trimester
Sampling
Mother (urine sample)

Down syndrome screening
Down syndrome is the most common genetic condition. Most people with Down Syndrome have intellectual and developmental problems may be mild, moderate or severe. This is a two-step screening. The maternal blood is tested for two normal first-trimester proteins. Then, an ultrasound is used to look at the nuchal translucency region under the skin behind the baby¡¯s neck.
Best time to get tested
Usually between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy
Sampling
Mother (blood sample plus ultrasound)

Prenatal cell-free DNA screening
Prenatal cell-free DNA screening, also known as noninvasive prenatal screening, is a method to screen for certain chromosomal abnormalities in a developing baby.Prenatal screening for trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18, trisomy 13, and sex chromosome aneuploidies can be performed using next-generation sequencing of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in the maternal circulation.
Best time to get tested
After 10 weeks of pregnancy
Sampling
Mother (blood sample)

Level 2 ultrasound: the 20-week anatomy scan
Most anatomy scans are performed in the second trimester of pregnancy, typically at 20 weeks but they can be done anytime between 18 weeks and 22 weeks. This ultrasound is used to determine fetal anomalies, the baby's size and weight, and also to measure growth to ensure that the fetus is developing properly.A computer converts them into a 2-dimensional image (or cross-sectional view) of the fetus on a screen. Sometimes 3D or even 4D ultrasound technology is used instead of 2D.
Best time to get tested
Between 18 and 22 weeks

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
Chorionic villus sampling is a prenatal test for identifying chromosome abnormalities and other inherited disorders. This test may be recommended by your health care provider, if you or your partner has family medical histories that reveal potential risks.
Best time to get tested
Between weeks 10 and 12 of pregnancy, if recommended
Sampling
Mother (cells from the placenta)

Thyroid stimulating hormone test
A thyroid stimulating hormon(TSH) test is done to find out if your thyroid gland is working the way it should. It can tell you hyperthyroidism or uhypothyroidism.Thyroid hormones are crucial for normal development of your baby¡¯s brain and nervous system.your baby depends on your supply of thyroid hormone during first trimester.
Best time to get tested
Throughout pregnancy
Sampling
Mother (blood sample)

Glucose tolerance test/Glucose challenge test
The glucose tolerance test, also known as the oral glucose tolerance test, measures your body's response to glucose. The glucose tolerance test can be used to screen for type 2 diabetes. It is a common type of testing for potential gestational diabetes.
Best time to get tested
Between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy
Sampling
Mother (blood sample)

Amniotic fluid test(AFT)
Amniocentesis(AFT) is a medical procedure used in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections, and also for sex determination, in which a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, is sampled from the amniotic sac surrounding a developing fetus, and then the fetal DNA is examined for genetic abnormalities.A complete anatomical ultrasound will be done prior to amniocentesis. but amniocentesis is performed to look for certain types of birth defects, such as Down syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality.
Best time to get tested
Between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy, if recommended
Sampling
Mother (amniotic fluid)

Cordocentesis
Cordocentesis(also known as percutaneous umbilical blood sampling or PUBS) is a diagnostic prenatal test in which a sample of the baby's blood is removed from the umbilical cord for testing. The test can be used to detect certain genetic disorders, blood conditions and infections.
Best time to get tested
Between weeks 18 and 22 of pregnancy, if recommended
Sampling
Mother/fetus (fetal blood sample obtained from vein in the umbilical cord)
